MESMERIZING MEKONG
Mekong is a mighty river in South East Asia and drains an area of 795,000 sq. km, discharging 475 cubic km of water annually. Starting in the Tibetan Plateau, the river runs through China’s Yunnan Province, Myanmar, Thailand and almost whole western length of Laos, Cambodia, ending into a complex delta spread in Vietnam. In Laos, as in other countries along its path, life revolves around the river. The river gains more than 40% of its flow from the mountains in the north and provides everything for the livelihood of people in Laos.
I spent almost ten years around the river in Laos and Thailand, and enjoyed every bit of it.
