MY BREAD MAKING MACHINE BROKE DOWN

After five years of faithful service, my bread making machine kneader motor broke down (in picture above). I tried to mix dough outside for a while but eventually it stopped working altogether. No regrets, but I had to find its replacement. I had bought this machine way back in a sale in Maseru in 2014.

Now that I am in Chiang Mai and Thais don't eat bread, I could find a bread maker, but the choice was limited and the price double. After clenching my teeth, I did buy the only one available and took it home. When I tried, it worked alright but made strange noises and automatic seed dispenser spilled seeds all over in the machine, close to the element. Not only was I unhappy with this purchase but felt that it could be dangerous, spilled seeds catching fire. I had had enough and took the machine back to the store and asked for refund. Fortunately, the store obliged without fuss and I got my money back.

How to make bread, was still a problem. Then I thought why not try my little kitchen oven. Back to internet for advice and lo and behold, I could  see hundreds of recipes, knead or no knead bread and it looked so simple.

First attempt was a bit hard bread, probably in my excitement, I did not follow the recipe properly. Second attempt was perfect and as good as the results of my bread maker, if not better.

Since then I have made several loaves of bread:
  • Plane whole wheat flour bread
  • Fruit bread
  • Sesame bread
  • Cheese bread
  • Spicy bread
  • Okara and bread flour
  • Beetroot spicy bread
  • Of course cakes are no problem
Recipes are straightforward, as under Other Interests > Breads and Cakes > "bread making is fun" page, but if you still want a recipe, just write to me at
